SHAKE THINGS UP WITH POH’S
FESTIVE APPLE FRANGELICO
There’s nothing like a refreshing cocktail to get the festivities started. But preparing a balanced beverage can often feel a little intimidating, especially if you don’t know your way around a shaker. That’s why I’ve put together a quick guide to preparing my Apple Frangelico cocktail, that’s sure to impress.
This recipe is for one serve, so multiply by the number of guests and serves required.
60mL cloudy apple juice
60mL soda water
Juice of 2 lime wedges (keeping the used wedges)
10 mint leaves, bruised in your hands
Start by placing your cocktail glass(es) in the freezer for 5 minutes. Add apple and lime juice, soda and Frangelico to the shaker followed by a handful of ice. Bruise the mint leaves lightly in your hands, making sure that the stems are removed, and add them to the shaker. (The fragrant oils in mint leaves are released when you crush them). Try not to chop or over-muddle the leaves as this causes bits to separate in your drink -not ideal!)
Pop the lid with the built-in strainer on top of the shaker. Place the second small lid over the strainer. Hold the shaker in your dominant hand over your shoulder and shake vigorously until condensation develops on the outside of the shaker.
Remove your cocktail glass(es) from the freezer. Remove the small lid from the shaker and pour the drink into your chilled glass through the cocktail strainer, ensuring no mint slips into your drink. Garnish with a used lime wedge and fresh mint leaves if desired.
